Back in Time to the Baroque

A brand new performance-based unit, Back in Time to the Music is part of the new Musical Contexts "Build Your Own" Secondary KS3 Music Curriculum.

Back in Time to the Baroque contains 2 fully-resourced lessons using the opening of "Spring" from 'The Four Seasons' by Vivaldi as a case study, where pupils learn the melody in lesson 1 and add a Basso Continuo accompaniment in lesson 2.

Each of the two lessons within Back in Time to the Baroque contain a detailed Lesson Plan, Pupil Worksheet and Presentation (containing all embedded media files and links to YouTube videos) and audio files (MP3 and WAV) are also included separately.

Each lesson begins with an Intro Quiz/DOITNOW with opportunities to consolidate knowledge and understanding using PIT STOPS. Each lesson ends with an interactive multiple choice Exit Quiz.

Pupils listen with increasing discrimination to a wide range of music from great composers and musicians, different genres and styles and from different times and places. Pupils perform accessible pieces of music from different periods of musical history, in both solo and ensemble contexts, with an awareness of effective performance technique including stylistic manipulation of the elements of music suitable to that musical period, typical musical instruments ‘of the time’, music theory and score reading and notation skills in both treble and bass clef staff notation.
