The My Music Study Guide from Musical Contexts provides an ideal 'Step up to GCSE Music' from KS3, allowing pupils to explore their own instrument, voice or music technology in depth.
 
A research task, Spotlight on my own instrument, encourages pupils to create a Facebook Page/Profile for their own instrument, before Creating a piece of descriptive music for their instrument, based on one of several stimuli.  Key Word definitions are given and there is a PIT STOP reflection task.
 
This study guide can be used to support OCE GCSE (9-1) Music Area of Study 1 - My Music although would provide useful as an introduction for any exam board and could even be set as "Summer Holiday" work for pupils who have opted to take GCSE Music in Year 10.
